Robert Sewell, MD, FACS

Experience

For more than 30 years, Dr. Sewell has resided in and provided surgical care to the North Texas community.  For 20 of those years he has been devoted primarily to the practice of Minimally Invasive Surgery, introducing Laparoscopic Surgery to the region in 1990 and Incisionless Surgery for reflux in 2009.

Since 1991 Dr. Sewell has served as Primary Faculty for more than 100 surgical training courses ranging from Radio Frequency Ablation, to Ultrasound and of course, numerous laparoscopic procedures and techniques.  Currently, Dr. Sewell maintains privileges at two Texas Health hospitals, Southlake and Hurst-Euless-Bedford.

Certifications & Achievements

Dr. Sewell was certified by the American Board of Surgery in 1980 and was re-certified in 1990 and again in 2000.  He was also Certified by the American Society of General Surgeons as an Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon in 2003.  Dr. Sewell is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a distinction given to surgeons who meet the Colleges high standard of competence, professionalism, ethics, and education.

Dr. Sewell is the immediate past President of the American Society of General Surgeons and is the ASGS Delegate to the American Medical Association.  He was a founding member of the Board of Managers for Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital - Southlake.

Education

Robert attended Lamar University in Beaumont, TX for his undergraduate degree and then went on to Medical School at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.  After graduation, Dr. Sewell moved to San Antonio for his Surgical Residency which was completed in 1979.  Although he has completed his formal education, Dr. Sewell continues to stay on the edge of surgical technology and passes that education along to his peers by teaching various seminars and workshops.

Publications & Presentations

A published author, Dr. Sewell has contributed three chapters to various books about Laparoscopic Surgical Techniques.  He also co-authored Weight Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band with his patient Linda Rohrbough. This book is a complete guide for patients who are considering or have already had gastric band surgery. Much of the information contained in the book is also applicable to patients undergoing other types of weight loss operations.

Dr. Sewell has contributed numerous scientific articles along with national and international presentations in the field of Minimally Invasive Surgery.

Out of the Office

When Dr. Sewell isn't in the operating room or seeing patients in the office, he enjoys spending time with his wife of 27 years, Donna, and his five children and five grandchildren.  Together, they enjoy tending to their English-style garden and playing with their two dogs, Jax and Que.

Because one of Dr. Sewell's hobbies is computer graphics, most of the illustrations, diagrams, animations and videos featured on this website are his own productions.  He also gives back to the communities both local and abroad through Christian mission work.  Dr. Sewell's travels have been documented through his love of photography, as seen in the photographs hanging in the office.

August 26, 1991 was a day that changed Dr. Sewell's practice forever - it was the day Stacie started working for him as his nurse.  Since then, his patients have been had the pleasure of knowing one of the most compassionate and caring people in the business.  Stacie received her BBA from Texas Woman's University and went on to get her Associates Degree in Nursing from Cooke County College.

"I became an RN because I have always had a desire to care for those in need.  I love working for Dr. Sewell; not only does he have great surgical skills, but a wonderful caring bedside manner."

Dr. Sewell puts it this way, "Our patients all recognize Stacie as the compassionate heart and sole of the practice. She is truly a joy to work with."

Nadine has been greeting patients with a kind smile and a genuine heart since 2008.  Not only does she love to develop relationships with patients, but she also considers it a blessing to be employed by a surgeon who has such strong relationships with them as well.  Nadine loves Italian food, shopping, and her two Shiba Inu dogs (Kia and Mr. Miyagi).

If she could only use one word to describe herself, it would be "honorable" and, without a doubt, we'd use that word to describe her too!

Dr. Sewell describes Nadine as the "anchor" at the front desk. "I am truly blessed to have someone that provides such a great first impression for those who are new to our practice."

Dr. Sewell says "Angie is like one of the family. She has a consistent caring attitude and an infectious smile that brightens everyone's day. It would be hard to imagine this place without her."
